The
Artist: Sculptor, Steffan
Wachholtz, in addition to his numerous other distinctions,
is a recipient of both the American Society of Interior
Design (ASID) International Product Design Award and
the prestigious Resources Council Product Design Award
(ROSCOE).
Steffan demonstrates by artistic example how REDESIGN
can provide new uses for otherwise discarded objects.
Recognizing the limited availability of natural resources
for creating new products, his work manifest his intense
awareness of the need to conserve resources and energy.
Yet Steffan eschews the term "recycling" as most commonly
used to promote such conservation. No one can express
it better than the artist himself...
"Often during recycling, the energy required
to convert surplus goods back into raw materials for
remanufacturing, coupled with the loss of energy and
technology associated with the original object, results
in a net loss in energy and resources. Yet,
through artful rearrangement, modification, and augmentation
we can keep the original object substantially in tact
while still finding new life, beauty and vitality
in its use."
In Steffan Wachholtz's skilled hands, the
redesigned object's remarkable style and beauty often
surpasses anything which could've been imagined by the
objects original creator.
